Who We Are
Purpose: The Discipleship department is set up to disciple people in the Word of God and to facilitate the believers spiritual growth.
Programs: Our chief aim is to encourage the practical application of the Word of God in the life of the believer. Our hope is that through the regular study of the word that individuals will become devoted followers of Jesus Christ. We offer classes that range from systematic
theology and studies on various books of the Bible, spiritual gifts, prayer and evangelism to financial management, biblical principles of parenting and relationships. We encourage people to grow in their understanding of how to minister to the different needs of people and host of other subjects.
Purpose: To be a visionary and prophetic voice for establishing and growing community at ECBF.
Mission: To embrace, encourage, and pursue one another with the living, transforming love of Christ Jesus
•Our connection efforts will have a focus on reconciliation. We will encourage people about the connections they are already making, and also “provoke” them to stretch themselves. Our activities will be multicultural, and multigenerational.
•We will partner with each of the other commissions, to overlap our work as much as possible.
•Outreach: We will plan activities that meet the connection needs of the church, as well as provide opportunities to bring in others from the “outside”.
•Discipleship: We will encourage folks to connect around Wednesday nights, and other times of corporate study.
•Prayer: We will encourage people to seek prayer, as part of getting their needs met.
•Events: We plan to schedule a connection event at least once a month.
The spirit of Missions is the heart of Jesus and should be the heart beat of every church. Emerald City Bible Fellowship is determined to be a mission-minded church with a local and global focus. This focus means that we are always looking for effective ways to reach out to our community and to various parts of the world by simply proclaiming and demonstrating the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our aim is to simply be doers of the word and not hearers only.
We also have a separate Not-For-Profit Christian Community Development organization in partnership with Rainier Avenue Free Methodist church through which we do a variety of community outreaches. (See urbanImpactseattle.org) Our Commitment to missions also affords us the opportunity to financially support others who are engaged in life changing relationships and ministry such as New Horizons Ministries and Servant Partners. This church believes that as you engage yourself in missions you will know God's heart for the nations and our community.
Here are several ways to actively participate in missions:
Volunteer to serve your local community
Pray for those personally engaged in missions. Because Praying for others is the closest thing to being there.
Consider going on a short-term mission trip. You will never be the same.
Support a missionary or mission project with your prayer and financial gifts. When you make a personal investment you have engaged yourself in missions.
There is an old saying that goes like this “much prayer, much power, some prayer some power, little prayer little power, no prayer, no power.”
It is our hope that those who become an integral part of our congregation will have a vibrant and alive prayer life. We believe strongly that unless the Lord builds the house we who labor do so in vain and except the Lord keeps the city the watchmen stay awake in vain. Psalms 127
That verse should remind us of our human limitations and our need for God’s intervention. We believe that the Lord calls each of us to a deep place of communion that can only be found in prayer.
Therefore, we will encourage and challenge those who attend Emerald City Bible Fellowship to enter into that place of intimate communion with our Lord through regular prayer both individually and corporately.
See 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Luke 18:1

Race and Justice:
Our Purpose: Understanding that reconciliation, equality, and justice are at the heart of the Gospel, this team exists to provide focus and accountability to the ongoing work of racial unity, reconciliation and Justice at ECBF and within our community. The team will partner with the Pastor, Church Leadership, and Commissions as a catalyst to ensure Reconciliation and Justice are kept on the front burner of our church strategy, and embedded in all aspects of the congregation.
To ensure the integrity of the committee we will strive to maintain a gender and racial balance on the committee. Having a person of color and a white person as co-chairs models that racial reconciliation and Justice is not just a person of color's responsibility, but everyone has that responsibility in the Body of Christ.
* Work with Pastor and Church Leadership to ensure that reconciliation is respected and practiced as indicated in the Word of God with members that attend the church, and as practiced by the Covenant Church regionally.
* Assist the Pastor and Church Leadership in organizing events, trainings, classes, and gatherings that will foster reconciliation and justice among the racial groups that attend the church and in the community.
* Assist the Leadership Council (our governing body) and Ministry Commissions to embed racial unity into the church by encouraging all members to take part in activities and events that foster racial reconciliation as a congregation.
* Work to enhance and support racial reconciliation practices and awareness in ECBF leadership and committees.
* Be bold in looking for ways ECBF - individually and corporately - can leave its comfort zone to establish His kingdom where all persons feel empowered and differences are embraced.
